Ukrainian teenagers have chosen the best European film of the year

On May 3, the young jury in Kyiv was for the first time selecting the winner of Young Audience Award, one of the most prestigious film awards in Europe. The award went to Italian comics film The Invisible Boy by Oscar-winning director Gabriele Salvatores.
Young Audience Film Day, which is the screening of three nominees and voting for the winner, was held in 25 European cities at a time, from London to Tbilisi. Kyiv participated the event for the first time. Local jury's opinion coincided with an overall rating: The Invisible Boy collected the most voices. According to its story, shy and unlucky Michael tries on a carnival costume that makes him invisible, and turns into a superhero. Film's director, the Italian Gabriele Salvatores won the Oscar for Mediterraneo in 1992, his works were screened at Cannes International Film Festival, and his film Nirvana is considered a classics of cyberpunk.
Competitors of The Invisible Boy were two participants of Berlin IFF: Irish family drama You're ugly too and teenage drama My sister skinny (Best film for children at Berlin IFF). After viewing each film the jury was discussing it. The audience chose the winner via voting.
The European Film Award is an alternative to Oscar, it is placed in one row with Cannes IFF prizes. The European Film Academy has been awarding best movies for 27 years, the prize for the best teenage film was established 5 years ago.
Young Audience Film Day in Kyiv organizers are Children Kinofest film festival for kids and teenagers, Goethe-Institut, and Cinema Kids educational project . The 2015 Children Kinofest will be held in 14 Ukrainian cities from May 29 to June 7. Free registration to shows will be available online starting from May 10 at childrenkinofest.com.
